| Buying a Cordless Iron |
Cordless irons work well both for people who only iron a shirt or two here and there and for people who handle baskets of laundry every week. The freedom of movement makes for convenient use and easy handling that everyone can appreciate. When selecting your cordless flat iron or cordless steam iron try to keep the following in mind.
- Wattage: More wattage means more steaming power, which in turn means quicker, easier ironing; most irons range from 1000 to 1,800 watts.
- Use/Recharge Time: Cordless iron’s one drawback is that they do have a limited use time, and take time to recharge, so time must be budgeted accordingly.

- Glide: Polished, dimpled, non-stick stainless steel or titanium provides the slickest, easiest action and clean-up.
- Weight: Heavier irons (3.5 to 5 lbs.) press harder and iron faster, but can be tiring, and the opposite is naturally true for light (under 3 lbs.) irons.
- Tank Capacity: Anywhere from 2 to 7 ounces depending on the size of the iron; a bigger tank means longer uninterrupted ironing.
- Steam: Variable steam is useful for a variety of ironing duties, the vertical steam function is useful for hanging clothes & steam bursts attack stubborn wrinkles.
- Miscellaneous: Functions like Mist, Anti-drip, etc. are handy, if not strictly necessary features common to cordless irons.
- Safety Features: Automatic shut-off is really a must; this will shut the iron off if it is left unattended in either the horizontal or vertical positions.
When shopping for your cordless iron you’ll find certain brand names get more attention than others. Popular models include Maytag cordless irons, Panasonic cordless irons and Oreck cordless irons.
